Mentor/Tutor Small Group
Community, Outreach
Volunteer mentors are needed during the school day to help with the following: assist students with academic assignments, encourage students to stay in school, be a role model, help students set goals, and provide acceptance and friendship.
Students are in grades 3-5 at Ashley Elementary School, off of Robeson St near Village Dr.
School requests mentors/tutors serve at least once a month but preferably both of the assigned dates -- the 2nd and 4th of each month.
Times available are the 2nd & 4th Fridays at:
~Mentor/Lunch Buddy: 11:30am-12:40pm, request 1 mentor for up to 3 students.
~Tutor: 1:30-2:30, preferably reading but possibly also writing, science, and math at tutor's preference and student's need.
Pre-requisites:
~Completion of FirstStep and NextStep, willingness to complete LeaderStep
~Completion of Criminal Background Check (no cost, provide info online)
~Sign up at Manna Small Groups on the App
~Provide additional info application to Small Group Leader (Barbara Anderson) to better match mentors/tutors with students
Applications/pre-requisites are to be completed by Feb 17th. First meeting date (Feb 24th) will be to "Shadow" school reps in various roles.

Additional training material and mentor discussion prompts will be provided by the school.
Small group itself will meet at least 1/month to share experience and pray for God's guidance and success in the program.
